National Baby Friendly Initiatives brief
(Hospital and Community level)
National Baby Friendly Initiatives are comprehensive programs aimed at promoting and supporting breastfeeding practices at both the hospital and community levels. These initiatives are designed to ensure that mothers and babies receive the highest standard of care and support to initiate and sustain breastfeeding, thereby promoting optimal health outcomes for both. At the hospital level, Baby Friendly Initiatives focus on implementing evidence-based practices that support breastfeeding immediately after birth, including skin-to-skin contact, rooming-in, and support for exclusive breastfeeding. These initiatives also involve training healthcare professionals to provide breastfeeding education and support to new mothers and families. At the community level, B aby Friendly Initiatives extend beyond the hospital setting to support breastfeeding mothers in their homes and communities. This may include providing breastfeeding education and support through community health centers, support groups, and outreach programs, as well as advocating for breastfeeding-friendly policies and environments in public spaces.
