How It All Started
CAMFEB was founded in 2015 after working mothers and advocates saw the same gap repeated across Kenya: women wanted to continue exclusive breastfeeding, but many were returning to workplaces and communities that were not ready to support them.
The challenge was not a lack of commitment from mothers. It was the absence of practical systems such as lactation rooms, informed supervisors, supportive workplace policies, and accessible breastfeeding education for families.
CAMFEB responded by combining advocacy with implementation: helping employers build mother-friendly spaces, engaging communities through education, and pushing for stronger recognition of breastfeeding as both a health issue and a workplace issue.
Over the years, that work has grown into a broader national platform spanning workplace lactation support, maternal-health awareness, public campaigns like the Breastfeeding Run, and partnerships that carry CAMFEB's mission into five counties and multiple sectors.
