Challenge

Outcome

Mothers are more likely to continue breastfeeding with dignity, confidence, and employer backing.

Challenge

Challenge

Breastfeeding advocacy can remain invisible unless communities, sponsors, and families are mobilised around it.

Intervention

CAMFEB uses the annual run, public storytelling, and partnerships to place breastfeeding advocacy in the national conversation.

Outcome

Support grows across donors, employers, and communities, creating momentum that lasts beyond the event day.

A First-Time Mother Finds Support Through Community Health Workers

Challenge

First-time mothers in peri-urban areas often lack access to reliable breastfeeding guidance and face cultural pressure to introduce formula early.

Intervention

CAMFEB trained community health volunteers provided home visits, lactation counselling, and connected her to a local peer support group.

Outcome

She maintained exclusive breastfeeding for six months and became a peer advocate, supporting three other new mothers in her neighbourhood.

“I did not know anyone who breastfed exclusively until the community health worker came. She made it feel possible.”

Employer Story

Florensis Kenya: A Flower Farm Becomes a Model for Maternal Support

Challenge

Female workers at Florensis Kenya needed to return to the farm within weeks of delivery, with no private space to express milk during shifts.

Intervention

CAMFEB partnered with Florensis to design and install a dedicated lactation room, train supervisors on breastfeeding friendly scheduling, and develop a return to work support policy.

Outcome

Over 50 nursing mothers per year now use the lactation facility. Staff retention among new mothers improved, and Florensis became a reference case for the horticulture sector.

How Advocacy Helped Shape County-Level Breastfeeding Policy

Challenge

Despite national breastfeeding guidelines, several county governments had no implementation framework or budget allocation for lactation support.

Intervention

CAMFEB engaged county health directors, presented workplace lactation data, and co-authored a policy brief calling for dedicated lactation provisions in public health facilities and county offices.

Outcome

Two counties included lactation-space provisions in their annual health plans, and CAMFEB was invited to advise on implementation.
